Maintenance isn’t just for Summer

Deciding to invest in a pool for your home is a big decision but, if maintained correctly, it can be a very worthwhile investment that can serve you and your family for many years. However, maintaining a pool can require expertise in pool operations, opening and closing techniques and chemical control. In other words—it is not a one-man job

Winter Maintenance is just as important as summer. Your pool has to be properly protected from the cold and ice. Learn more about the details in the Pool Closing section.

POOL CLEANING

Unless, you and your family are big fans of St. Patrick’s Day, there is no reason why your pool should be green!

Pool Cleaning Services

If you notice your pool displaying even the slightest green glaze then you need to contact Vargas Pool Service Inc. immediately. Our pool maintenance experts have the experience and know-how to determine whether a green pool can be remedied and replenished or whether it will need to be drained. If the former is the case, our team will use the following techniques to assess the scale and range of the damage as well as a number of measures to fix the problem.

“Children may like him, but he does not belong in your pool!”

Testing the Water

If your pool has gone green, then it is a telltale sign that your pool has insufficient chlorine in it. However, more importantly is determining the pH level of your pool. Our team uses the most advanced water testing kits that can determine the pH level of the water in your pool to great detail.

In general, it is recommended that the pH level should be below 7.2. If it is higher than this number, we will apply the adequate amount of muriatic acid to correct the issue.

Shocking the Pool

Depending on both the pH level and the severity of the greenness, our team of pool maintenance team may need to shock your pool.

Applying an Algecide

Following three or four hours of shocking, our maintenance team will then add a tailor-made algaecide that will ensure your pool is not only chlorinated but is also algae-free.

Checking the Pump and Filter

Whether your pool has a DE, sand or cartridge filter, we will be able to apply the necessary backwash techniques needed to ensure the pump and filter are running correctly.

Brushing the Pool

After 24 hours, we expect that the color of your pool will be pretty much back to normal and you should see a massive transformation. That being said, it is likely that it will remain cloudy following the shocking and will need additional filtration and brushing. Our team will return a day after the initial deep clean and complete the process.

Critter Removal

Unwanted visitors can be an issue with any inground pool. Although a good fence often proves helpful for larger animals, preventing them altogether is a challenge, especially in neighborhoods where homes border wooded areas. We can remove any unwanted pool varmints as the need arises. Sorry, but this does not include children.

POOL CLEANING SPECIFICS

Enthusiasm and elbow grease are great, but maintaining and cleaning a pool is actually a little more complicated.

Advanced Pool Cleaning Equipment

A common myth that exists about cleaning your pool is that, like your kitchen or bedroom, it simply requires some elbow grease and a can-do attitude. While these things are important, maintaining and cleaning a pool is actually a little more complicated.

  • Brushing the straight walls of the pool using an extended brush handle and pole.
  • Monthly checks of the filter’s pressure gauge.
  • Backwashing at least once a month to ensure that water is not susceptible to greenness or algae.

Pool Vacuuming Done Correctly

To correctly vacuum your pool, it is necessary to have the right tools and equipment. At Vargas Pool Service Inc., our commitment to advance technology means that all of our customers’ pools receive the utmost attention. Our tried and tested method requires an industrial length pole and a durable vacuum nozzle. From there our pool cleaning professionals are able to move the vacuum head to those hard-to-reach places and ensure a thorough vacuum of your pool.

Pool Liner Lifespan

On average, a pool liner is designed to last between 12 and 15 years. Many pool liners can exceed or fall short of this figure depending on how well or poorly they are maintained.

Many factors can affect the lifespan of your pool liner, including:

  • Living in an area that is prone to ground water issues such as mud and clay: This is a common issue that we encounter when repairing and replacing old pool liners.
  • Ensuring that your pool has the correct chemical balance: Not only is this a key requirement for ensuring that your pool maintains its clear color and remains algae-free, but it is also extremely important for the upkeep of your liner. Failing to have the correct level of chlorine and algaecide, over time, causes minute tears and wrinkles to appear on your liner.
  • The fit, cut and lay of your pool’s liner: Each liner is customized to fit the exact measurements and dimensions of your pool. Any discrepancy in this regard can leave your liner unfit. It is therefore crucial that you ensure that the measurements are accurate prior to the beginning of the manufacturing process.
  • Using a winter cover: A durable and reliable winter cover will elongate the lifespan of your liner and save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. The cover will protect the liner from both cold winds and the strong rising sun, as well as leaves, twigs and other pieces of debris.

When to Replace a Vinyl Pool Liner

In general, spring or fall are the best times to change your pool liner to ensure that you do not miss any of the precious summer months stuck with an out-of-order pool. While the process of changing the liner is quite complex, our skilled team of pool technicians will generally have your pool back to its best within three to five working days.

Pool Liner Installation

Our fully certified team takes immense pride in replacing pool liners. This is why they always follow three golden rules of liner installation:

  • Measure the pool for the exact dimensions.
  • Pump out approximately 10% of the water and work with the pool owner to select an appropriate pattern.
  • Install the new pool liner, allowing for stairs and skimmer space
